Hi,
Thanks to all that replied. I downloaded pure-ftpd 1.0.16c, compiled it with
./configure , then make (easy!). I disabled my xinetd launched proftpd, then
started pure-ftpd.

It worked the first time. I was able to successfully connect to ::1 and
login with my local account. I can also reach it through my 6to4 tunnel
which was the end goal.
