It is. The DataStore maintains only one copy of each file.

The directory structure and file naming is based on the SHA-1 digest of the 
file contents (hence the 
fact that only one copy is kept on disk). If I rememer correctly, the first two 
chars are used for 
the first level directory, the next two for the second level, and the next two 
for the third level, 
and finally the file is moved in there.
