I don't use xsane, but my Brother multi-function color laser scans with
the Gnome scanning app with no problems. It depends on what you mean by

it's "driverless", so that would imply it working out of the box and I
would expect any newer models to do the same.

Yes, it's a wifi printer and it's using IPP and it's working fine. I
was just clarifying my previous comment where I thought I had installed
a driver.
Btw, my Fedora computer is apparently the only one that can print
double-sided properly to it. The phones and Windows computers will only
print short side flip for some reason even if long is selected. It's
very strange.

You got that completely backwards. I have no issues at all using
Fedora. It's everyone else that it isn't working for.

It sounds like your WIndows machine is using WSD, and it is providing
fewer options than IPP.
The option is there, it just apparently doesn't work. And it's not *my*
Windows machine. :-) The kids run windows on their computers now that
they bought their own.
