not opening

Hello. Thank you for offering me Open Office. My 
operating system is Vista. After I downloaded Apache's Open Office, I cannot 
open a file that is designed in Powerpoint. It asks me to "save" the file. Am I 
missing a step?  Thank you, Geoffrey Anderson
