Jeffery: I found there is an open issue in regards to the usage of this feature and that it is not fixed. If you would go to the OpenOffice.org IssueZilla and vote for issue 70534, I did. The more votes, the higher on the list it moves and this tells the Word Processing team how many folks are affected. You will have to register for the site. Hello I'm glad to say the Word count for selection as well as whole text is working fine in the english OOo 2.0.4 on an iMac PPC with Panther (10.3.9). It functions when I open a existing document without making any change to it, as well as with a document I'm working on. Apparently, there would be only an issue with Windows and Linux. -- Guy
