[users] Help on installation

I have tried downloading open office 5 times now. Finally today it is on my 
desktop but I cannot open it, the error message is 
"The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete. This could be 
the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or virus."
I cannot uninstall it as it does not show up on my list of programs to 
uninstall.
What do I do now?
I tried downloading it again but it just hangs after an hour or so.
Please advise, I am running out of sanity.
