In theory, allowing people in private to use whatever units they want seems
sound, but it really doesn't work. And the BWMA knows this. If I want to
use FFU, but all businesses are using SI, my ability to use FFU is severely
hampered. I may go to the shops with the desire to use FFU, but when I see
everything priced and measured in rational SI, I really can't use FFU. I
really don't want to spend my time converting from SI to FFU. I want
everything in FFU. And converting rational SI to irrational FFU is not
going to make me happy either.

If I want to build a home project and do it in inches, but all the materials
are made to metric sizes, then again I am hampered from using my "system" of
choice at home. I will always have to do some type of aggravating back
conversions, so in effect I don't have the convenience I would have if
everything was in my units of choice.

When I go to work, I have to use metric. But, since I prefer a different
"system" at home, I also want to use it at work, but I can't. I spend a
third of my day at the job having to use a system I abhor.

Home use of FFU doesn't need to be policed. Those who try to use a system
different than SI at home run into nothing but grief and aggravation. Home
users of FFU when the market place is SI create their own hell. This is why
the BWMA is fighting SI on every front. They know you can't have it both
ways. It's either one or the other.

So, you will never see any laws forcing people to use SI at home. It isn't
needed. As long as the market place is full SI, that's all we care about.

John
