So far as I know, the USA was the first nation to adopt decimal
currency. That was in 1786. France adopted the franc, with decimal
sudivision, in 1793, further confirmed in 1795 by a law which
specified that the franc would be divided into 10 décimes and the
décime would be divided into 10 centimes
