The difference is units of measure. No one uses miles, inches, gallons
et cetera outside the United States.

I have not looked at the National Geographic for some time. Is there a
difference between the US edition and the International edition (other than
advertising and legal stuff?).
Many years ago my wife received a subscription to the "Cordon Blu Cookery
Magazine" (I think that was the name of the magazine). The advertisements
were certainly international in nature, but the ingredient list for recipes
was very mush US-oriented. Not only were all fluid measurement in US pints,
but butter was measured by the "stick" - a concept which is totally unknown
in Europe.
