Wow, seems like expensive overkill. Why do you need a 4K or 6K MH gen for
your TW? Especially the cost. The Honda 3K inverter (Generator Model#:
EU3000 ) is a quieter and less costly option that will run an a/c and charge
the battery(s) for less than $1800.

I've heard Roger Hightower's run in the back of his truck; it is so quiet
(58 db), it's barely noticeable standing 10-feet away, yet produces clean
inverter power. It also only weighs 144 lbs.

Brake controllers:

The best that I have used has been the JORDAN electronic fully adjustable
brake controller. It is manually attacted by a control wire to your brake
pedal swing arm and applies increasing current to the brakes as the brake
pedal is depressed ie. like having a potientometer directly tied to your
brake pedal...LED digital readout of miniamperes on the box and very easy
to install. don b. 69 Caravel

Howdy:

Why not get TWO EU2000i Hondas and run them in tandem when the other 2000W
is needed?

4000 quiet watts for $1690 (all day, shipped) weighing less than 100 lbs for
the pair.

Those $1600 generators are not rated for continuous service...when
overworked they have the life expectancy of a grape on the floor.

Spend a little more and get one that will last.

I've got to say that I'm *not* a big fan of the Honda RV
generators. The ones I have had dealings with were generally noisier
and more trouble prone than my trusty Onan Emerald I- though in all
fairness, the ones I see are the ones having problems, and Hondas are
not that popular in the RV models. I *do* like the portable inverter
models, however.
A really neat model is the Generac Impact 3600- 30 amps of 120
volt power, 88 lbs- inverter equipped, though I'm unsure about the
reliability.

When deciding about size, you really need to figure out how
much power you need- will the whole rig run off a 30 amp outlet, or do
you need more? If it will work with 30 amps, I would go with a 4000
watt model- nothing larger. The biggest problems with generators is
not running them hard enough- the RV models are designed and built
with a 100% duty cycle, at 100% output, and do not do well at lower
than 50% load.

I checked around on the net before I bought my Prodigy. Found it on sale at Southwest

LOVE it.

That was a good deal, but right now they have it for 124.95. I am offering
it for 120.00. Best I can do.

The sewing machine question - the wife of the couple is on another list about
antique sewing machines that I am on - We collect and use people powered
sewing machines, hand cranks and treadles. So I wanted to know how many
sewing machines would go to NM with them? I bought my first people powered
sewing machine for use in my AS - now I own over 30 sewing machines, only one
of which goes camping with me.LOL! So you see that the question was on topic-
I choose to use an old technology instead of using a generator to sew when I
camp.

Subject: [VACList] Motorhome engine replacement

Hello Folks,

I went back to Alabama to get my new-to-me 1983 Airstream motorhome, and
found that is has a bad rod bearing. I would like to put in a Target or
Mr. Goodwrench engine, but the upshot of dozens of phone calls is that
GMC/Chevy doesn't have the carbureted 454 motorhome engine available any
longer - it's too OLD! Kind of like me.

The coach is presently in Huntsville, AL, in the northern part of the
state. I love the rig, and, one way or another, WILL get a good motor in
it and bring it home to Santa Cruz, CA.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards, and Merry Christmas,

Rik

I woul'd suggest taking the engine to a competent builder that is of good
reputation and offers a 3/ 36000 or 5/50000 yr/mile warranty.

You got that right. The last thing you need is for your new engine to
blow 200 miles from Joe Schmutluck's Rebuilt Engine and Sausage shop.

Bite the bullet and get something that will last. There's no way you
can tell me you can't find a rebuilt 454 engine...there too many made
and too many currently on the road.

Stay away from the "we can get you a Thunderbolt engine for $995.

every bit as good as a new engine.
