I'm just saying that EVENTUALLY Windows Installer, like Installshield,
has the "feature" of becoming totally corrupted. And on most systems
where that happened to me, the only solution was a format and
reinstall of the whole OS. Something that I plan to do in a few months
time but I cannot afford to do right now.

An installer should be something that just copies files to the right
location, not something obscure that messes your system like Windows
Installer or Installshield. Try a google search for "unable to
install" "windows installer" and see how frequent this is. Better yet,
try "installshield sucks" and you'll see why Nullsoft's NSIS installer
is so popular. Not only it creates small installers, it also works
everywhere and doesn't use any OS services for installation. It works
on even completely ruined systems.

After all, that's the way an installer should work. And I believe most
apps should just run after unzipping.
IBM knew this and with OS/2's "IBM works" they included with a
register.cmd file for "re-registering" any "registry" (os2.ini)
entries it needed in case you copied the application over or restored
it from backup on a freshly installed system.

THAT is a properly designed application. Relying on a buggy system
component for installation is just asking for trouble.

But then WTF do I know... I've been using software since the TRS-80
Model III days...
