thanks ken, thanks arne...

it would have been a really stupid mistake. i tried again, the problem does
persist:

what i did:
vadddomain firstfloor.mybuilding.com
vadduser [EMAIL PROTECTED]

mail from gmx to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

here a complete copy; mail.mydomain.com is what qmail is configured to call
itself - i did not change it, because i only use virtual domains.

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at mail.mydomain.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
Sorry, no mailbox here by that name. vpopmail (#5.1.1)

dns is configured as follows:

a MX record for                mybuilding.com points to mybuilding.com;
a MX record for firstfloor.mybuilding.com points to mybuilding.com;

mybuilding.com resolves to the ip of a NAT router, behind which vpopmail 5.0
plus qmail are running; port forwarding is not the problem -
[EMAIL PROTECTED] works perfectly on the same computer.

funny enough, i can mail from [EMAIL PROTECTED] to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] - this works...

i even tried another free mail accound (web.de) - still having the same
problem.

any hints? any additional configuration info which can help?
