Is Media Librarian the proper title any more? At NMM this year one of the topics of discussion was the fate of media librarianship going forward -- video librarian, media and arts librarian, digital media librarian, and other such titles.
I'd be interested in looking at job descriptions or position descriptions for librarian assignments that would fit into these multi-layered categories. And what would new descriptions, duties as assigned, purview, etc. look like in the next 3-5 years? If folks wanted to point me to any online descriptions I could collect and report back. But perhaps some of you would like to CHIME IN on needs and qualifications for the future. I'd be glad to consolidate and redistribute. Maybe a topic for 2017 NMM while we commune with our Level 3 VEEGAN (tm) certified tofu cultivators in Portlandia? (And don't even consider eating an egg from the chicken named Charlotte ever again!) Hug a walnut for peace, everyone. Lord knows there are enough nutz to go around now. VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
