As a former Winter Haven resident myself, how could I not help? <BG>

I had this problem last week. I finally realized that the problem was with the modem- 
not the router. If you're running a DSL modem and particularly a Westell modem, you 
may want to access the modem (On the newer Westell modems, punch in 192.168.1.254 to 
access the modem or a URL of http://localmodem and you should be able to get into the 
unit. On the Westell, there is an "expert mode" that you have to go into and set up 
the NAT configuration and open all of the required ports for whatever services you're 
working in. In my case, I needed both VNC AND Terminal Services, so I had to open the 
5900-5903 ports for the VNC and the 3882 (I think) for the Terminal Services. Mind 
you, all of this was on the MODEM. Also had to open those ports on the router as well 
and do the IP forwarding stuff as usual.

I literally beat my head against the wall trying to figure this one out. In 
retrospect, it makes sense for the modem to do this, but given that Westell had NO 
documentation explaining that they do this with their modems, it made it a bit 
frustrating to figure out. You have to remember that DSL and Cable modems are set up 
to be one connection routers, so when you look at it like that, it makes sense.
