It turns out you can get YouTube Premium for $12 a month. That eliminates the ads. That seems like a modest cost to me. I don't watch YouTube enough to pay for it, but if I watched it a lot I would pay. As you and I said, someone has to pay for all that bandwidth and equipment. You can't expect them to provide it for free.
