WEBMGRS Digest for Wednesday, January 12, 2011. 1. RE: Branch successful use of Facebook & Twitter
---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: RE: Branch successful use of Facebook & Twitter From: "Jean Lotz" <lo...@bellsouth.net> Date: Tue, 11 Jan 2011 22:13:33 -0600 X-Message-Number: 1 Sorry. There is no way to automatically convert from a group to a page. But I have successfully created a page, then asked group members (via a message to all members) to "like" the new page. All members who "liked" the new page stated they preferred it to the group. Kay, don't worry. Someone from the Social Media Task Force can be assigned to help you with your switch to a page. I started many groups long before pages were available. We were already loudly complaining to FB that groups weren't working since people had to revisit the groups to get any news. We were begging them to post group news to our history pages. Pages came out doing that and so much more. Nancy Shoemaker was the first to experiment with pages and encouraged me to try them. Now FB has created 2 new forms: "community pages" and "new format groups". Community pages worry me in that members give too many privileges to fellow community page members. FB changed the group format recently but didn't reformat all the old groups into the new version. I think Nancy is experimenting with the new groups. I've been sort of out of touch since I've been off taking care of my daughter since late summer. I'm just now trying to catch up with all the FB changes. When we first set it up, I seem to recall being advised to use the group format....now, if I understand you correctly you are saying the opposite. Also, we have a lot of "members" of our group. How can we get them back as "friends" of the page? Or is there some way to simply convert?
