Since then, AAUW and its members have committed to technology in support of our mission. 1989 â AAUW implements AAUWide by CompuServe, the Associationâs computerized communications system to link members together. 1994 â The first totally online branch, the Northern Virginia Online Branch, is formed and incorporated with 15 members. 1995 â AAUW debuts its first website containing 26 pages. 1995â1996 â AAUW of Washington State bought computers for its state officers, which are passed along to the successor at the end of each officerâs term. 1999 â The AAUW St. Lawrence County (NY) Branch created the first branch website. 2000 â AAUWâs research report, Tech Savvy: Educating Girls in the New Computer Age, explores how to make the defining technology of the century more accessible, appealing, and inviting to a variety of users and learners. 2007 â The AAUW California Online Branch creates the first branch Facebook group. AAUW of North Carolina becomes the first state on Facebook later that year. 2007 â The Technology Usability Adviser Group (TUAG) collaborates with staff to develop and test the Member Services Database (MSD) which provides members secure, online access to AAUWâs national membership records database. 2008 â The national blog, then called AAUWDialog, debuts and now averages more than 5,500 unique visitors a week. In December 2013, the blog had its best week ever (so far) with nearly 20,000 unique visitors in just one week. 2010 â The AAUW Social Media Committee is formed to help identify social and new media opportunities and assist branches and states and the national office in strategically utilizing these emerging technologies. Today, more than 775 branches and 48 states maintain websites, 200 branches and states (and growing) are on Facebook, and 50 branches and states have Twitter accounts. Leona's gift helped kick start AAUW into the new computer age. Your continued contributions and leadership help AAUW to explore new technologies, to reach out to new audiences, and to support the mission in new ways. During this AAUW Member and Volunteer Appreciation Week, we thank you website managers, social media wranglers, Site Resources coordinators, and new media evangelists for all that you do on behalf of AAUW. And we know there are other major technology milestones that we missed. So please, share them with us.
