Any course in a free s/w tool should be expected to transmit the spirit of independent thinking and action to students. But a systemic problem is the general attitude of students towards education.
A very small percentage of those who attend FOSS workshops and courses actually end up pursuing it further. Often they lack confidence and motivation. A key reason is gender-dependent conditioning.
