As an alternative, you can put a clickable empty transparency over the
teaser.  Is that what you meant by CSS tricks?

If you don't know the width and height of the element (because the text may have a differnet height for different teaser) you can't put a clic#kable rectangle over it - the content have to be inside to let the element grow with the content.
