With most other visual studio project types (asp.net, winforms, c++) unsaved changes are automatically saved before the build is started. It is very very easy for a user who is used to how visual studio works normally to overlook manually saving. This leads to much frustration... "I changed the xml... why is this error still [EMAIL PROTECTED]@@#".
