Hi,
I apologize in advance if its not the right mailing list for this query but I
have already tried wix-users but haven't gotten a satisfactory response yet.
I'm hoping you folks will be able to help or at least identify the bug in
Wix/Windows. Here's my query:
I have an installer that creates a virtual directory in IIS. I have created
that installer using Wix 2.0.5805.0, which I believe is the latest 2.0 release.
The installer (resulting MSI) works fine on XP, 2003 and even on 32-bit Vista
and 32-bit Windows Server 2008.

On the UAC enabled OSes (Vista and 2008), I get the "Admin Consent Form" asking
for elevation. After I allow the installer to run, the install finishes
successfully on the 32-bit OSes but fails with "Error 26002. Failed to read
IIsWebs table." on 64-bit Windows Server 2008 (Virtual Machine). I haven't
tried 64-bit Vista. Looking at the installation log, I confirmed that the
install successfully got past the point where it puts the files in the "Program
Files" directory which kind of proves that "elevation" worked.

Can someone provide some insight/help into this solving this problem? If you
would like me to prepare a small MSI which demonstrates this problem, I can do
that as well.

PS: We are considering using Wix 3.0 in the near future but this an existing
release whose installation I don't want to change too much. I also don't know
if Wix 3.0 doesn't have this issue.

thanks,
Manish.==

The WiX IIS CustomActions on Vista require the Legacy Admin Interface.  The IIS
team chose to completely rewrite their data store and not install the
previously supported access interfaces by default.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I do have the legacy settings enabled. Server Manager >
IIS 6 Management Compabitlity > IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility is checked.

This is a UAC related problem. If I open a an admin command prompt and fire off
the MSI from there, the install works fine (on the same 64-bit machine). Its
only the double-click to launch and allow elevation workflow that doesn't work.
Also, as I mentioned, this isn't a problem on the 32-bit Vista and Windows
Server 2008.

thanks,
Manish.
