James, I build a range of full CSS layouts when I first started playing with full CSS. Most of them are still online, and there are a number that are centred and reasonably browser-stable. There is code on the page to make it easier:
Single column Centre aligned, scalable width http://www.maxdesign.com.au/presentation/page_layouts/single01.htm Single column Centre aligned, set width http://www.maxdesign.com.au/presentation/page_layouts/single02.htm Two column Centre aligned, scalable width http://www.maxdesign.com.au/presentation/page_layouts/two01.htm Two column Centre aligned, set width http://www.maxdesign.com.au/presentation/page_layouts/two02.htm These experiments in "page layouts" folder are quite old, and I probably wouldnąt code them the same now (a couple break badly on some browsers), but the four above seem fine.
