Short answer: Tried yes (FreeBSD), succeeded, no. > Do we have to remove the XServer, before installing X2Go ? No. Longer answer regarding your first question: Judging from the older, failed attempt at porting X2GoServer to FreeBSD, it is unlikely to be an easy task. However, if youe OpenIndiana or FreeBSD boxes can be made to speak XDMCP, or you only need a single GUI application from them, not a full desktop, there is an easier and faster way to get you running: Place a Linux box with X2GoServer in the same network as your OpenIndiana/FreeBSD box, so they have sufficient bandwidth between each other, and either enable XDMCP on OpenIndiana/FreeBSD (for full desktop use), or prepare a script on the Linux box (say, in /usr/local/bin/) that starts an ssh -X connection from Linux to OpenIndiana/FreeBSD and calls your GUI application there (in case all you need is a single GUI application). Then, use X2GoClient in either XDMCP proxy mode or in single application mode (specifying the name of your start script) to make the connection. What's going to happen is that the Linux X2GoServer will connect to your OpenIndiana/FreeBSD system on behalf of your X2GoClient user, and accelerate the traffic between X2GoClient and X2GoServer, while between X2GoServer and your OpenIndiana/FreeBSD, speed will be just fine without X2Go, as they are on the same, high-bandwidth network.
