      First, It could be that you have some corrupted files.
      Please do:

      rpm --verify libnewt0.50

      It should return nothing.

      Second.  Check that /etc/pam.d/xserver says something like:

        #%PAM-1.0
        auth       sufficient   /lib/security/pam_rootok.so
        auth       required     /lib/security/pam_console.so
        account    required     /lib/security/pam_permit.so

        Third.  In DEBIAN there was a file called /etc/Xwrapper.config
        I do not know if there is an equivalent in RedHat.
