Description:

When starting the X server the G550 head starts correctly and shows an image.  
The two g450 heads set the correct scan rates (i.e. the monitors leave power 
save mode, and on inspection are being driven at sensible vertical and 
horizontal scan rates).  However no image is visible.  X clients can be 
started on these blind screens, (but obviously not seen).

I am attempting to run the following setup : 

Matrox G550 AGP
2 x Matrox G450 PCI
Intel D845PESV Motherboard
Intel P4 2.4GHz
1GB Ram

I am using one monitor per card

The operating system is Linux (vanilla kernel 2.4.20 / Gentoo distribution), 
and XFree 4.3.0.

I have tried both INT10 and NoINT10 options.  With NoINT10 the card memory is 
not correctly detected.  With INT10 the server takes 100seconds to
initialise.  Memory is detected but still no image.  

I have tried numerous less likely options (mainly with XFree 4.2.1) which 
include sync on green, NoDDC, INT10, NoINT10, defining various mga chipsets, 
DRI on/off, Screen 0/1, different kernel memory models (High Memory, No High 
Memory), IO-APIC support on or off, running the matrox FB on boot.  All 
without success (and if you think that you can see signs of desperation with 
some of these attempts - you are correct!).

Using the Matrox binary drivers I get an image - but corrupted (strong 1 CRT 
mode character wide vertical lines and mousetrails).  This is the same on 
NetBSD (Your implementation of OS independent drivers is neat).

There is some improvement with 4.3.0 over 4.2.1, when the monitors were not 
even driven.  With NetBSD 1.6.1/XFree 4.3.0 the behaviour is identical.

(Win XP and the Xaccel demo can drive the cards multiheaded, hence I am 
confident that the hardware is functional).
