Mark, you need to check both your X11 keyboard layout (in your XF86Config file... not sure where this would be under MacOSX) and any "environments" as well. On a Linux machine I would suggest checking out X11 and either your GNOME or your KDE environment, but unfortunately I don't know what "environment" MacOSX would use.
