why the Xmail server uses its own DNS resolution and ignores (probably) =
the
system setting?

I have configuration, where the mail server is expected to route all =
queries
trough one particular DNS. When I setup this DNS in system, I expect =
that
programs would use it. In XMail, I must specifically set it again in
SERVER.TAB.

This is not a reproach, only question: why you are using this behavior? =
Is
the DNS/DNS cache mechanism implemented in OS so bad that you must write
your own for performance reason?
