What exactly do you mean by "video tearing", and under what circumstances
(fullscreen or windowed, which desktop environment / window manager, ...) does
it occur?
Note that you can enable and disable TearFree at runtime via
xrandr --output DVI-0 --set TearFree on # or off / auto
