FBdev is something that exists only on Linux,
and is both unnecessary and cannot be used on
                    FreeBSD.

You do need to install the X11 keyboard and
mouse drivers to interface with the FreeBSD
console drivers, and you should check that the
                    sysctl hw.ofwfb.relax_mmap is 1. Your xorg.conf
looks basically identical to mine. Did you
change anything since the last X server log you
                    sent out?
                    -Nathan

I tried using ati as the driver then switched it
                    back to r128. I reinstalled r128. Pkg_info |grep
xf86 lists the keyboard and mouse drivers as
                    already installed.
When I type dmesg|grep pci it lists the address
for the card as a vgapci.
Which log message or system file do you need me
                    to send?

Xorg.0.log with logverbose set to 9.
                -Nathan

                I did startx -- -logverbose 9 -logfile
                /var/log/Xorg.0.log

And sent the results to http://slexy.org/view/s2IF73TSxW

Thanks for helping me through this.

Add "AllowEmptyInput" "Off" in your "ServerLayout" section?
            -Nathan

Okay, I fixed the log error. My apologies about that. What
            remains is "no screens found.'
I also restarted dbus and hal.

Is it actually loading the r128 module? The last log you sent
didn't have it. You may also get better luck asking on freebsd-x11@
        -Nathan

I've joined the x11 list and sent the links .
Thank you for helping me through this.

Here is the entire conversation with links.

cool.. looking at the log files
(not sure if you fixed this or not),but this:

(II) Loading extension DRI2
(II) LoadModule: "fbdev"
(WW) Warning, couldn't open module fbdev
(II) UnloadModule: "fbdev"
(EE) Failed to load module "fbdev" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) No drivers available.
Fatal server error:
no screens found

if you look in:
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/* (or wherever your os is putting them)
there should be a library
that is called fbdev.. if not you need to install
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-fbdev/

hope this helps.

*bsd doesn't support the Linux fbdev interface. You need to add:
Option "UseFBdev" "False"
to the device section of your xorg config.

Alex

ahh.. I knew there was something todo in xorg.conf
but didn't know how..(thanks for the info).
