Looks like something broke during your upgrade.  It looks like ended
up with the vesa driver rather than radeon.  Check your dmesg output
and xorg log.  Make sure you have the firmware packages installed for
your distro.

Hi,
I found i had the proprietory fglrx driver installed, but the latest one required an xorg-video-abi-xx that was not available in debian.

Uninstalling the fglrx driver and installing the xserver-xorg-video-radeon package fixed the problem.

All the font rendering looks smoother now for some reason.
