Thanks for that, however, I get this :

Error: Could not locate kernel tree in /lib/modules/2.4.17/build/include 
/usr/src/linux-2.4.17/include /usr/src/linux/include /usr/include

the kernel source is definately there! Or am I just missing the obvious 
(again!)
