I have a G3 upgrade card in my 6100, which with the card being
vertical and the heatsync being some strange shape and size, it is
difficult to mount the fan on the heatsync itself. So, I got one of
those PCI-slot fans, popped the metal bracket off and stuck it out the
right-angle slot. It seems to keep everything nice and cool,
especially since the hot G3 processor is on the opposite side of the
system fan in the power supply.

Yes, Arctic Silver may be expensive, but in my experience it really
does have superior heat conductive properties. I bought a 12 gram tube
(way too much) for about $20 at Fry's, which will probably cover every
processor I have (and I have at least 20 macs, and 10 PCs) at least
three or four times. The stuff goes a long way. A 3.5 gram tube is
like $8.
