Sorry this is a bit belated but I finally managed
to get my 'tunes of the year' list down to (almost)
manageable proportions. Then realised that the good
'ole U. S of A. had bagged all the medals (again).

So I hope it's o.k. to post it up
for your perusal & delectation...;-)

I have noticed peeps don't usually give a brief
thumbnail sketch review - but with so many good tunes
fighting for attention figured it was worth a try.

I hope some kind soul will politely point it out if
I've done wrong - likesay - otherwise thanks for your
indulgence.

_______
A. Main floor - TECHNOID

1.Fanon Flowers,'Winter in Kalamazoo',Sonic Mind(US)

Combines the energy & drive of EuroTech with the
soul & depth of Detroit. Uses unique, instantly
recognisable, snarling, almost Hendrix sounds.

2. Jeff Mills, 'Skin Deep', Purposemaker, (U.S.).

Evolutionary rather than revolutionary but it's all
in there-- The rage, the defiance, the exquisite
beauty and the steely determination to stand between
a rock and a hard place and make it sing.......

3. DJ Rolando, 'Knights of the Jaguar',U.R. (U.S.).

Object lesson in taking a classic blueprint and making
it sound fresh. 'Ascension' on the flip does the
dancefloor biz as well.

4.Johannes Heil,'Illuminate
t'Planet',Kantzelkant,(Ger)

Astoundingly consist album collection of modern
electronic deep techno music for the mind and body.
Something for everyone, anytime, anywhere, anyroad
up..

5. Samuel L Sessions,'Moments of Clarity' ,Cycle
(Swe).

The best knock-off purposemaker loops going from the
amazingly prolific breakthough artist of the year.

6. Gaetano Parisio (Gaetek):' 6/10', A.R.T., (Ger.).

Manages the difficult trick of keeping the depth and
sublety whilst hammering it hard for the 'floor. This
bloke is going places - and I wanna be there.....

7. Stanny Franssen, ' 5th Galaxy', Ante-Zenit, (Ita).

Fizzes and crackles like being caught in a tropical
thunderstorm. Kinda scary too. DJz look for the 'ante'
Vn for the dancefloor cut.

8. Marco Carola, '3rd', Question, (Ger.).

Just a groove. But what a corker. Not just a stomper
it attacks the hips with a delightfull swing.

9. Joel Mull, 'Sun Set', Inside, (Swe.).

Welcome return to deep tech-house form from last
year's
revelation following some disappointing trance remixs

10. Santos Rodriguez, 'Road to Rio', Cosmic ID, (U.K.)

The glorious sound of LOST in full flow at 04:00 a.m.
Who is this guy??

B. Back Room - HOUSIER

1. Thomas Brinkman, 'Soul Center', W.v.B. (Ger.).

Think the James Brown's backing band the famous flames
remixed by basic channel.

2.Joe Claussel,'Come Inside(Loft), Spiritual Life,(US)

As beautiful and real as house music gets. And then
some. Music for Humane Beings.

3. Victor Simonelli, 'How Many Tears', West Side,
(U.S.).

Reworks the classic bass line of Larry Heard
'Mystery of Love' with a spoken female vocal.
If it wasn't so lovely you would weep.

4.Vincenzo 'Kings Last Ride(I Pooley
rmx)'Dessous,(Ger)

Outrageously danceable bumpy bassline tech-house
heaven.

5. Tom Churchill, 'Your Move/Checkmate',Headspace,(UK)

Provided lasting pleasure all year long. Never failed
to please. Prefer the flip for dancefloor action
personally but this has proved timeless music.

C. Eclectic Closet - MEATY, BEATY & BOUNCY

1.Zed Bias,'Standard Hoodlum Issue',Social Circle,(UK)

Zed Bias is the uk garage name of the moment but this
sounds to these ears more like a cross between ragga
and booty bass electro. Seek this record out for
something new and exciting.

2. Basement Jaxx, 'Red Alert', XL (U.K.)

You already know this is brilliant dontcha?? Fresh
and fun as you like. Millions of versions going
around.

3. SlimBoy Fat, 'Satisfaction Skank', white, (U.K.).

The Rolling Stones might not be cool anymore but this
brought a massive smile to my face and bounce to my
step when I first heard him play it out.

4. Pete Heller, 'Big Love', white, (U.K.).

Credit where it's due please. The best of the
progressive, deep trance monsters to hit the woodwork
this year.

5.Bob Marley, 'Sun is Shining(funkstar rmx)',
Club Tools, (Den.).

Bob's family. So you gotta take him in.
No matter what state he turns up in......
