the poem is by mutabaruka. the original track using it is on by bobby konders on the nervouse acid e.p.(available on boot leg all over new york) quite a few tracks since then have used dis poem. recently thomas shcumacher did a track on his electric ballroom l.p and joe claussel put out Dis Poem 99 on Guidance. this is a great track--get the double pack of mixes.
also, the boddy konders track (but not the vocals) was sampled on the blunted dummies track 'house music for all' on definitve. a killer track. james [EMAIL PROTECTED] on 02/07/2000 05:36:38 PM To: "313 Detroit Techno List" <[email protected]> cc: (bcc: James Bucknell/Magazines/Hearst) Subject: (313) This poem... I'm not sure if this is really 313 related by perhaps has a "back in the day" link. Can anyone tell me who originally did the "speech" that starts "This poem..." in a Jamacian (?) accent. For a link to a sample of the speech that I'm talking about (and perhaps the original song?), check: http://www.biostat.wisc.edu/~rose/house/jihad.ram @ 39:00.0 (comes in shortly) As well, is there a cut of that speech that is a capella? I've only heard it via some old house mixes via Frankie Knuckles and Derrick Carter and it seemed a capella. Any associated history lessons would be greatly appreciated.
