I recall first hearing 'Dis Poem' at the very end of the 1970s or early 1980s (also around the time Mutabaruka did 'Every Time I Hear da Sound' -- at that time he and Linton Kwesi Johnson were the twin pillars of what was being called dub poetry, although their approaches were quite different.
Mutabaruka was pretty damn awesome in a performance here in Portland in about 1984. I heard his later tours varied a lot in intensity and quality. 'Dis Poem' has been endlessly reissued, sampled, etc. Most recently by (ta-da) Joe Claussel on the 'Dis Poem 99' remixes on Guidance GDR 55. http://www.ireggae.com/dispoem1.htm A classic, check it if you don't know it. phred
