ok im sure alot of you know about kid606 and funstorung comming out
to detroit to perform at the motor on the fifth. i am excited to see that we
are getting more shows out here involving more than a dj and a few e-tards.
what this post is actualy about though is the fact that when a show like
this comes around it is a big thrill because we dont get many of them out
here. maybe in new york and cali there are lots of laptop jocky performances
but here in detroit were lucky to be graced once a year with a show worth
watching (like the one ive been speaking of above). now this brings me to a
question that i have to ask. is there a secret collective of producers in
detroit that do more than "grandpa willy's trance set" that i am somehow
missing? i mean, i cannot be the only one within a statewide area that is
interested in seeing a new name on a bill with a new sound to go with it.
yes we have plastikman and the npfc but in truthfully, there has got to be
more innovators running around this used to be powerhouse for music. i guess
why im posting this is because soon i will be ready to do live sets and im
wondering if the shows i end up playing are going to end up me and my
friends wondering where everone is. i just know that id the record stores
around here carry the releases i love, there has got to be an outlet
somewhere where i can see some good new talent do more than spin the same
damn disco track. now this also brings me to a point where i also must ask
if that there is no one out here doing these types of performances, why can
we not start bringing them out to do them more often. the last three shows i
saw worth watching was mouse on mars, luke vibert and muziq and now this one
comming up (kid606 and funkstorung) and i think we definately deserve more
than three good shows every two years. i would like to begin opening up a
door to music that doesnt get much respect out here and i am more than
willing to give it a real effort so if anone else out there in idm land
feels the same about detroit please feel free to drop me a line. and even if
you dont live out here, id love to hear what you think about this because in
all reality, detroit really did start off with a bang, and now, well....you
understand im sure.
