Also you could do 'most underrated artists' - there are plenty from Detroit,
but three general ones come to mind:

(1) Propaganda - as good as German compatriots Kraftwerk and just maybe even
better
(2) Cerrone - big fave of mine now (Supernature is one of my all-time
favourite disco tracks), oddly enough never raised when the French
house/neo-disco explosion of the mid-90s is discussed.
(3) Madonna  "What most reactions to Madonna share is an automatic dismissal
of her music as irrelevant" - Susan McClary. (Am I allowed to say how much I
love her single Music here?)
