If you can find Tonto's Expanding Head Band buy it ASAP. They were, if I've got my info correct, Stevie Wonder's keyboard turners and back up band at times. They invented the Stevietron synth which was exclusive to Stevie. I don't know the name of the release I have or the trakc names because they have been impossible to find until I ran into someone who had it and burned it for me. I've never heard more "out there" type of music, on par with Sun Ra but more influenced by the smoke. Seriously head trip funk and psychedelics.

talking of Hancock and Clinton et al, i'm almost ashamed to admit that i
know more or less nothing about most all of the 70's funk artists i often
see mentioned as a major influence on techno, and more specifically on
Detroit techno.

can someone please (Tom C? Ian?) give me some recommendations of where to
start? praps half a dozen lp's i *need* to find?

i was thinking about taking a random punt on a coupla cds last Saturday, and
nearly picked up "Headhunters" anyway, but i figured it'd be a good idea to
take advantage of the collective knowledge of the list before i part with
some hard earned.

thanks

rob
