I've been a fan of Mark's work for a while, although I have to admit I haven't bought anything of his for a few months. He runs his own label, Crayon, who must be up to at least the mid-teens in the release schedule by now. He's also recorded for the (now-defunct?) Offshoot label as Skymaster, and for Force Inc as Bellringers. There have also been various releases on other labels like Aubrey's Solid Groove, Minifunk in Spain etc etc. My favourite track of his is called 'The Corona', on a 12" called 'Cosmosdwellers' on Solid Groove (the other side is Aubrey's equally awesome 'Swirls') - a long, building, deceptively simple techno cut based around a simple analogue bassline with layer upon layer of swirling strings and heavily-effected percussion drifting around - mesmerising stuff. I can see where the Red Planet comparisons come from although his sound is quite different in a lot of ways. Not everything he does is amazing, but the good stuff is very good. Must try and catch up with what he's been doing lately... Cheers, Tom
