Hello- >He is being described as a Derrick May type DJ, so we'll see - funky, soulful and diverse! Has anyone experienced Ken's sets - what can we expect?<
I was lucky enough to catch Ken Ishii here in Chicago a few weeks back and thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't know exactly what to expect, as I heard he plays a lot of stuff out of leftfield which doesn't necessarily keep a dancefloor going. But, this was not the case. He started off very housey, perhaps following where the opening DJ left off. Then, he moved into what I can only describe as 'experimental funk.' I wish I could describe it better, but nonetheless, it was very nice. His last hour consisted of funky techno with some Detroit here and there (Mills' Jaguar mix, Stings of Life, Clinically Inclined). Although, I did picture him being a bit taller ;-) All and all, a very good night. I can't wait until he comes to town again. He seems to visit Chicago on a semi-regular basis, as do most DJs. I would highly recommend checking him out. Cheers, John
