I agree the Pirelli ad was cool. At the time I think it gave techno some
credibility in the US mainstream. I think that's a good thing.

One thing that troubles me is that I can't think of any thirty seconds of No
UFOs or pretty much any techno song that does justice to the whole thing.
The Pirelli track was an original composition for the commercial if I'm not
mistaken. If anyone ever wanted to release my music in a commercial I would
want the option to remix the track for thirty seconds (good luck, I know),
or talk with them about submitting alternate thirty-second compositions. I
would prefer the latter, and I'm confident I could come up with something
better once I knew what it looked like, than trying to fit one of my songs
to the commercial.

As a TV viewer, I like the VW ad with the Stereolab track, I like good music
in commercials, and in general I'm much happier with the state of
advertising in the US than I was 5 years ago. It's become much more
European. Much riskier. As an artist, I wouldn't want someone to hear one of
my songs for the first time on TV, through a crappy little speaker, totally
out of context, probably with no bass, and probably with talking on top of
it.

Bottom line is, it's Juan's decision - who are we to judge? If he's trying
to get more involved in music for films, I'm sure this would be an excellent
opportunity for him to gain exposure in Hollywood.
