These are some good ideas. There are samplings and pieces of this sort of info scattered about on the web currently... Submerge's site and Kevin Saunderson's site at kmsproductions.com come to mind. Interestingly, I visited Submerge's web site several days ago and noticed that they are working on a redesign... maybe a sign of bigger and better things to come. A site that capsules all of this information and more in one place would be nice to access, though.
As far as the "wow" factor goes on a web site, I'm of the opinion that all that geewhizwow stuff is a little overrated. Sure, every web designer wants to build a site made to impress, but more importantly is that you have to build it so that it gives people a reason to keep coming back. Novel things like Shockwave, Flash, Java applets and stuff can look cool and entertaining, but if the site never gets updated or contains ho-hum content, it might as well not exist because visitors probably aren't going to visit it but once or twice. If it contains a lot of resources and useful information... well hey, now you have something very worthwhile, regardless of the "wow" factor. :) Ok, so who's gonna give this domain name owner a kick in the rear and get him going on this project we've proposed for him? ;) Matt E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Web Site: http://www.magicmattkelly.com > The thing is it could be much more, here are some suggestions for what i > would like to see on a detroittechno.org/com/net site. > > - a 313 FAQ! > - a guide to all Detroit releases with a voting system and notes that can be > submitted by anyone that is a subscriber. > - a guide to where to stay in Detroit, how to get to Detroit! > - a guide to all artists and DJ's > - a guide to all radio stations > - esp a guide to any Detroit techno 'people' that have an online presence. > - interviews and background info that we can point people to read about > Detroit producers. > - sound files in real audio. > - a detailed rundown of famous Detroit clubs (Music Institute, Shelter..) > - as David said "It could have been an excellent vehicle for the current > generation of new Detroit producers." > - web forums to discuss all these areas. > - information on how to book these artists and DJ's > - info on those DJ's and producers that are no longer living in Detroit but > are regarded as from Detroit. > - information about Detroit filmakers, animators, writers etc, designers. > - info on the people that have inspired the music/culture of Detroit techno.
