ya - i've done it before ;) it seems in my first year of djing i get fairly good - then i don't practice as much and the skills slowly fade until i practice consistently again. just like anything i suppose - the more you do practice the better you are.

That's called "cutting your teeth." It's all part of the process that seems to have been forgotten in this genre of music. Everybody sucks at one time or another... and everyone "woodsheds" and comes back better.

i've seen people do it the other way too.
practice a few months in their bedroom and think their ready to play in
front of people then scare people away in a small club due to bad beat
matching and track transitions. good for them for being confident enough in
themselves to try it - bad for them after when they feel frustrated with
themselves and their lack of response from patrons at the club.

some of em just don't want to...this kid I know
Mike...he plays some awesome techno sets with two
decks and a 909...he never promotes himself...he plays
at a couple house parties for friends every once in a
while...doesn't get out at all...and he's
awesome...when asked why he says he just does it for
himself...I guess I'm just to egotistical to identify
with that...;)
