Damn right he did...he's a Black artist who has paid his dues, & who
has earned the right to keep faith not only with other Black musicians
from the past, but also with the home culture that he draws inspiration
from. He samples the hell out of them, as well...showing solidarity, as 
he puts it, with "all the niggaz that live and die in detroit everyday
[...] all the real niggaz from detroit who struggle everyday, just to
live, eat and breathe."

Listen to "Silent Introduction" or any of his records if you want a hefty
helpin' of righteous, genuine soul sampling that comes from a place
truly deep in the D, immune from the soul-stealers.
