Coming from a family of working class folks, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't
for companies like Ford, GM, Edison, and Ameritech. As much as they
monopolize their markets, and they try to corner their shares, they are
still providing jobs. Jobs for people of all classes and creed. They may
be the worst employers around, but they are still employers. No one would
be able to create music if it wasn't for jobs to gain money to buy
equipment, and so on and so forth.

---> Correct, but in todays society everything gets bigger. Small companies dedicated to quality and personal service get squeezed the life out of them by the big companies. The same thing happens in 'clubland'. The big parties get bigger (and in most cases much worse) and people trying to pull off something smaller, interesting and quality events are just put out of business by the mindwarping media- and flyercampains of the big boys. So this leaves you with a choice: go work for the big, unpersonal company OR struggle ahead and try to keep as much of your own identity in everything you do. This is a tough choice and it can really get to people. Man, when I came out of school it took me so long to find a job I accepted a job in a bank. Every day I had to switch of 'John' to become a number because that's what I was to those people. I got f***ed so bad in that job I would rather starve than work in that kinda of entreprise again. Anyway, this is a sociological development that we can not easily stop. Everything is moving to quantity instead of quality. Luckily there will always be a group (most of you are examples) that doesn't want to go there and who will stick with quality (which hopefully will become a standard again when the quantity-thing gets out of hand). The only thing that is sure in this whole thing is: 'It's going to get a lot worse before it's going to get better (if it ever does)' so we will have to be strong.

If we just realize it and ignore it, we'd be much better off, than getting
all upset everytime we think someone is trying to "steal" our soul. I think
all the opinion expressed are valid and work, but I'd rather see a group of
considerate people ignoring something that is beyond their control, rather
than someone "thinking" that there is an issue and doin something that ruins
the whole party.

--> Ignoring this thing would save us a lot of energy. But, although we may be smart enough to see through the big marketing schemes, there will be plenty of people falling for it and getting misled by it. So, how do we protect (= inform) them? Or do we just stick to ourselves?

John, trying to finally get from behind the computer, out

P.S. Nice threads!

Hope everyone has a wonderful evening...

Cheers!
