SÓNAR PRESENTS SONARSOUND After nine years, during which the Sonar festival has established itself as the most exceptional electronic music and digital arts festival in Europe, SÓNAR will cross borders for the first time this coming May 1st with the first presentation of SONARSOUND at the Royal Festival Hall in London. Inspired by the same values as those of SÓNAR, SONARSOUND will export the festival's philosophy bringing into play electronic dance and avant-garde music within an urban context to the UK (Royal Festival Hall), Portugal (on the 9th of May at the Lux club), Switzerland (on the 25th of May in Neuchatel, within the context of the national exhibition Expo 02) and Germany (on the 10th of August as part of the classical and contemporary music festival, Schleswig Holstein Festival). In the coming months, a number of musical events have been scheduled in clubs, institutions and festivals with the aim of transmitting the kaleidoscopic artistic range that has characterised SÓNAR since its creation. In collaboration with the Royal Festival Hall and the labels Mute and Rough Trade, on the night of the 1st of May as part of the 'Ether' festival programme (www.sbc.org.uk), SONARSOUND will present the screening of Fritz Lang's classic "Metropolis" in the sound version edited by Jeff Mills (where the end of the film is linked to a Dj set), as well as the live performances of Super_Collider, a cubist funk project shared by Cristian Vogel and Jamie Lidell who will present their second album, "Raw Digits". Their new configuration includes a keyboard player and a drummer. SONARSOUND will also present Radioboy, alias Matthew Herbert, who will present his musical anti-globalisation manifesto "The Mechanics Of Destruction" on this significant date, and the Dj set of Si Begg, one of the latest signings to Novamute. The second SONARSOUND, that will take place at the Lux club (www.luxfragil.com) in Lisbon on the 9th of May will include the live performances of Luomo (the house project of the Finnish artist Vladislav Delay), the electronic crooner Louie Austen, and the Dj sets of Steve Cobby (one half of Fila Brazillia), who will present his new album "Jump Leads", as well as the Portuguese Dj's Rui Vargas featuring Oscar MCing and Tiago Miranda. The protagonists of SONARSOUND in Switzerland, at the Cargo club of Neuchatel, specially created for Expo 02 (www.expo.02.ch), will be The Youngsters (the techno duo on the French label F Communications), Matthias Schaffhauser (creator of Cologne's Ware label), the Spanish DJ Ángel Molina and the experimental electronics of the Swiss groups Earthbound and Teleform & Marcus Maeder, on the Domizil label, who will also take part in this year's edition of SÓNAR. The SONARSOUND programme for the Schleswig Holstein Festival (www.shmf.de) will be confirmed shortly.
