Actually you touched on something that disturbed me greatly, the difference
in crowds between Demf 1 & 2. It was the sight of such a diverse crowd
after the first Demf, all enjoying themselves and digging on the music, that
made it really seem like a landmark to me. That diversity seemed to be lost
at the second Demf, and I'm curious as to why this was the case? Anyone
have any thoughts on this?
....

i only wish i could have attended the first; i'm from seattle and didn't
find out
until it was financially impossible. but to me the second was very diverse;
there was a lot of 'rave', but also a lot of grandma and kid and
i-live-here-and-what-is-this-thing-going-on and "i flew out from denmark"...

i don't know what the local view on demf is at this point and that's part of
the
reason i subbed to 313 again after a long absence.. i am wondering, though,
if local resentment about the way the politics went down contributed in some
way
to a less diverse second festival?

In general, I thought that there was a preponderence of ravers at the last
festival who didn't necessarily know what they had even come to see.
....

it's possible, but almost everyone i talked to last year was not from
detroit. i
met people from japan, england, amsterdam, california, florida, new york,
toronto, etc.. barely anyone i had a conversation with was local and the
local
people i did talk to weren't ravers and had come just because they were
curious about the "crazy party"..

i am annoyed by confused ravers when they show up just to get high and
lay all over each other, but i didn't see any of that at the demf. it might
have
gone on in the hotel rooms, but at the festival itself, everyone seemed
really
into it. as far as i am concerned, people who have no clue what the music
is but love it and are freaking out about how good it is are just fine by
me. ;)
best way to learn is to fall in love...
