I think Sean nailed the definition on the head a few posts ago. Cabarets are popular among the older crowd in Detroit. Rather than having to spend their Friday and Saturday nights dancing with 18 year old kids at the club, they rent out spaces throughout the city and create their own party. Like Sean said getting all dressed up and B.Y.O.B'n it. Dancing all night long to old school and house, and most recently booty.
So, UR having their own cabaret doesnt seem that far fetched, they are just providing a place for the "older crowd" ( not necessarily age-wise, but maybe widsom-wise, i.e. not raver kids) to do their thing Friday night.
