i gotta say that this doesn't seem spoilt to me in the face of what i heard
this weekend (Carl Craig at Plastic People was brilliant too). but then i'm
a 313 girl, just keep bringing them over and i'll be there (someone
listening i hope :)

Well, i don't want the UK 313 scene to turn into a European techno scene. I
don't mind a bit of home grown, but I prefer it to be along a 313 vein. It
can still be kept fresh within this context, as the Signal night proved.

It's interesting that people should say this about the uk techno scene.
Maybe the problem is not only with the promoters but with the people who
support the scene. I mean, the line up for the Signal night was amazing. And
the music at the actual night was so superb and interesting that I had to
keep on running backwards and forwards between the two rooms.
Not only did the night have the drawcard of Juan (fantastic track selection
and good mixing too!), but all the other artists featured were worth going
to hear on their own merits.
Yet nearly every techno listener i know on this list and in the rest of
London chose to go to Lost. Why? I like Jeff Mills too but we've all seen
him play loads of times at Lost and Lost has also not been really special
for a long time. It's huge and crowded, Steve Bicknell always provides 3hrs
of torturously boring music and we've had a full 10 years of it!
Put your money where your mouth is and attend something different and not
just the same old stuff which you complain about cause it's the same old
stuff :)

.

I am gonna stand me ground here and say a few things about Lost.

Dru Kru- me personally would like to watch paint dry.

the venue was too small for Jeff, but good for the Colin 's. I could not
stand Tanaka set. He did not realise that his third deck tone arm had gone
but
he continued to mix on it and it kept jumping, why he did not run with two
decks , heaven knows!
but even then his mixing was not impressive. If he got paid more than £400
they need to get there
money back!

Sound system was ok and got better when Jeff came on. I think Jeff's set was
great, a
good broad range of music through the years.

Colin Dale (as I and I am sorry to say this, cannot stand Bicknell's mixing,
so opted for Colin) was superb!like
you say, very housey but on form, not taking to many risks but better than
Tanaka and Bicknell anyday.

Mills is back too soon to LOST for Light & sound thingy..Bring back RUSH I
say as he is always welcome in
my book and he hasn't been there for a while. ALso why don't they get some
home-grown talent.

I feel that they really do miss out on the talent that is about,
particularly John Kennedy and Arthur Smith. Ok I know
these guys but John can never say he plays at LOST cos of copyright stuff.
And why they never book Arthur of Grain , I mean the guy on three decks
would piss on Tanaka..man LOST wanna not become to stagnant in their
bookings. to have Jeff is excellent but they must keep their ear to the
floor and listen to the people.. I mean do any of them subscribe to this
list?

sorry if I have gone off on one but the uk pees me off with the lack of
Techno, the only thing coming to London that is new is the Marco
Carola..thank god for a new nite and some exciting prospects but shame its
on Thursday.

One day they will be a nite that will bring new and exciting things here.

Last weekend here in London was very 313, with Atkins, Mills, Craig and
maybe a couple of others to be seen over the holiday (inc. Monday) .... Now
that we've all probably recovered ;o) how did folk find the various nights?

I went to *** LOST *** which featured Colin Dale, Fumiya Tanaka, Mills,
Steve Bicknell, Du-Kru et al. Missed Du Kru which was a disappointment as I
wanted to see what the reax was from the main room. Any thoughts anyone?

Tanaka was awkward - He appeared to ocassionally try mixing *deliberately*
off the beat (or am I being too charitable?!?)

Colin Dale (imho): supberb performance. Recently he's been veering more
towards a house vein than techno, but there were a number of classics. A
H-Foundation track early in the set nearly blew the roof off, (sorry track
names not my forte but I know it was H-Fdn.) Dale is old school and it shows
in the long mixes and precision, but he kept my attention for at least 2+
hours .... hope it's my perception and that he's not really slowly playing
out less and less ....

Mills was Mills and in very good form - 'Sweet Smell Of Fear' appeared,
which was nice, as was 'I Feel Love' on a massive system ... However, I
sense a boredom creeping in on Mills. A few regular faces were missing, plus
already some are saying they'll give the next Lost at 28.9 (with Mills too)
a miss. Plus Mills is also on on 21.9 in London.

Opinions please!

Cheers,

K
