Mills Live @ the Liquid Room, etc.  This is a big planet and we can't go to
all the show's we'd like, obviously (unless your Otto K?).  But if it
doesn't even BEGIN to do the actual performance justice, it was just so
unique or special or a part of it's environment, or whatever... then really
I can completely respect the decision of the artist or label not wanting to
release it.  In fact I applaud that decision.

That's a good distinction indeed. We haven't seen anything but Real Video
from the first DEMF, and I think it would be impossible to 'bottle and
preserve' that magic.

Oh, and just so y'all know I'm not just pulling this 'anti-archivist' stuff
out of my arse, I recall when seeing Hawtin give a lecture-type-a-thing
before DE909 in Iowa City, he actually devoted a fair amount of his talk
against the growing tendency to archive, and it's relation to the Internet.
